Bond 25 is going through a topsy-turvy time right now as it navigates the waters of finding a replacement for director Danny Boyle. With Boyle’s exit also went his script and MGM Studios is bringing aboard longtime franchise writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to pen a new one.
Purvis and Wade have been involved with the franchise since Daniel Craig first took up the mantle of James Bond in Casino Royale. They wrote the script for Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. The duo also wrote an approved treatment for Boyle’s Bond 25 project but since his exit, the script had been tossed and the studio decided to bring them back to pen a new draft.
It’s unclear how exactly the plot of Bond 25 is changing now that Boyle is out, but it’s seemingly safe to assume the studio is starting from scratch.
The studio is currently meeting with directors who could possibly take over the empty position, including Baby Driver director Edgar Wright. It is reportedly interested in adding a director that also has a background in writing.
Bond 25 is not expected to arrive into theaters until late 2020, if not later.
