Captive State Trailer Takes a Peek at an Eerily Oppressed Country

There’s always something very chilling about taking a look at an oppressed country, and we do just that in the first trailer for Captive State.

In an alternate future, the Earth looks to be in a perfectly peaceful state—or so it seems. A creepy narrator speaks glowingly of how “The State of Our Union is Strong,” and how things like unemployment, poverty and crime have been cut down or eradicated completely before urging viewers to “give thanks” for this prosperity.

But that’s when things take a twisted turn and we see how exactly the state is captive. At the very end of the trailer, the population arrives at a stadium to meet with their legislators and their legislators arrive in a crazy spaceship.

Captive State looks very intriguing. Directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and starring John Goodman and Vera Farmiga, it takes place in Chicago and explores how the captives try to live a normal life or rise up against their oppressors. It’ll make its way into theaters March 29, 2019.
