Promos help the Magic: The Gathering world go round and give more motivation to get players participating in the community. This week, Sept. 10-16, Store Championships for the Core 2019 set are being held at local game shops and comic book stores around the country. Those who participate get a chance for bragging rights and prizes, but even those who don’t win will get a free copy of this slick Guilds of Ravnica promo.
Every person who attends one of these events will score a full-art promo copy of Emmara, Soul of the Accord.
Pretty slick card, though I don’t see much use for it outside of Limited, Brawl, or Commander. In Standard, Green either chugs along on its own nowadays or finds friends in Black Saprolings or Red Dinosaurs to play with. White combines best with Blue thanks to players using Teferi, Hero of Dominaria.
Despite being one of my favorite combinations, if not my absolute favorite, Selesnya Green/White decks are not a thing right now, nor do I see them emerging with the upcoming set. Best save her for a “go-wide” Brawl deck, teamed up with Huatli, Radiant Champion, Shalai, Voice of Plenty, and Shanna, Sisay’s Legacy.
Or, you can just hold onto it, as promos are more fun to collect than use.
I’m still on the fence about going to the Store Championship. I need to clear up a few hours to go, but I’ll be sure to let you know how badly I get trounced.
Hope to see you there. Be sure to use Wizards of the Coast’s online tool to help you find a participating store if you need it. Guilds of Ravnica will be released on Oct. 5.
