When the Avengers do battle with Thanos in Avengers 4, the team will bring the big guns. An alleged set picture from the Avengers lab claims to feature Iron Man’s patented proton cannon, an incredibly powerful weapon that could make Thanos wish he never messed with the Avengers.
Throughout his ten-year run as the MCU’s lynchpin, Iron Man has created all kinds of armor and weapons, but nothing quite as powerful as a proton cannon. Put it this way, the thing could melt through the Death Star.
We actually saw the same proton cannon featured briefly in Avengers: Infinity War. As Screen Rant points out, when Captain America and his group of fugitives return to the Avengers headquarters, you can see what looks like the proton cannon in the background.
The same weapon shows up again in an image shared by Avengers 4 directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Clearly, the weapon is of significance, and this latest set photo gives us our best look yet at the weapon.
While the weapon has yet to be confirmed, its arrival seems like a fitting way to defeat Thanos. At the crucial moment, what if the proton cannon is what sends Thanos back to where he came from? I’m sure audiences wouldn’t mind that at all.
