Just as we thought maybe we would go a week without word of a rebooted 1980s or 1990s sitcom, we hear Designing Women is currently in development.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Designing Women creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is working with Sony Pictures Television Studios to reboot her series. The project has apparently been in the works for several months now with the studio searching for a home for the series.
Designing Women ran from 1986 to 1993 and suffered a tumultuous run at times due to backstage fighting. Delta Burke was let go from the series after the fifth season after a vote off by the cast following comments she had made about the producers. At the same time, Jean Smart opted to not come back. Those two were replaced by Julia Duffy and Jan Hooks. For the seventh season, Duffy was replaced by Judith Ivey.
This is just the latest in an onslaught of reboots and revivals being discussed as of late. Fantasy Island may be heading to theaters, The Facts of Life is looking to make a comeback, ALF may even be on the way as well. It just seems like a non-stop stream of the past coming back to visit us.
One has to wonder what will be rebooted in 20 to 30 years if right now we only seem to be obsessed with reboots. Anyone up for version 3.0 of Frasier?
