Tomb Raider sequel moving ahead with new writer

Alicia Vikander is going to be running through tombs again it would seem as a writer has been hired to pen a Tomb Raider sequel.

Amy Jump (Free Fire) has signed on to pen a second Tomb Raider film. The first installment of this reboot series hit theaters in March 2018. It didn’t burn up the domestic box office, but it did well globally bringing in $274.65M off of a $94M budget.

No word as of yet if director Roar Uthaug will return for the second outing.

The big question now will be potential release dates. With the Jump just coming on board, we’re probably looking at a 2020 production start at the earliest, so more than likely we’re looking at a release some time in 2021 to early 2022.

Film rights are still with MGM with Warner Bros. handling distribution on the first film. More than likely we’ll see a similar set up for the second outing.
