Old-School G1 Transformers are Coming Back (to Walmart) this year

Every year around Christmas, I get to guilt my mom for just a minute. When I went away to college, she gave away all my 80s Transformer toys. Admittedly, I didn’t have Soundwave, so I’m not sure if that even counts as a collection, but I don’t let that stop me from reminding her, or her returning fire right back. But I’ll be able to start getting the band back together later this year thanks to Walmart.

The retailer announced that it’s bringing back some fan favorites from the first generation of Transformers later this year. The collection will include Starscream, Hot Rod, a six-pack of Constructicons that form the fearsome Devastator, and some smaller “Legion Class” figures like Bumblebee and Outback.

According to the press release, these things are going to be about as authentic as you can get without trolling eBay. These remakes will use “the original production tooling, including die-cast parts and classic heat-sensitive stickers,” in addition to the classic 1984 packaging.

These Transformers will be appearing on Walmart’s site, though as of the time of this writing, they aren’t up just yet. Devastator will be going up for $74.99, so brace your wallets. And if I wish hard enough, maybe they’ll bring back Soundwave, too, since Soundwave is clearly the best Transformer.
