No matter how bad your initial marketing may have been, sometimes you can still overcome it.
First place for the weekend went to Sonic the Hedgehog with $57M. Considering how poorly the first trailer was received, things turned around and it seems to have paid off at the box office.
Birds of Prey came in second with $17.11M, a drop of 48% from its opening weekend. The new domestic total now sits at $59.27M. Globally it has reached $142.87M off of an estimated budget of $84.5M.
Third place went to Fantasy Island with $12.4M off of an estimated budget of $7M.
The Photograph landed in fourth place with $12.27M.
Fifth place this weekend went to Bad Boys for Life with $11.3M domestic for a new total of $181.32M. Its global total sits at $368.32M.
This week’s wide releases will be Brahms: The Boy II and The Call of the Wild.
