Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC announced, screenshots and trailer arrive

Nintendo’s announced DLC, old and new, for Pokémon Sword and Shield due to release this year. Players who decide to purchase the extra content will gain access to new stories in the Galar region and more than 200 additional Pokémon. You’ll enjoy these fresh adventures with the save file that you’re already rolling with in Pokémon Sword and Shield, so you’ll bring your crew of Pocket Monsters along for the ride.

The DLC can be snagged with what Nintendo’s calling an Expansion Pass. That pass will run players $29.99, and it includes both The Crown Tundra and The Isle of Armor.

The expansions will bring new gyms, clothes, and more Pokémon. In addition to some of the new Pokémon players will see, the expansions will add more than 200 existing Pokémon to the mix.

Yes, Slowpoke is back. Praise the maker.

The Isle of Armor arrives in June 2020. This one features new clothes, rivals, and new Pokémon. Based on the trailer, your starter in the DLC will be able to Gigantamax, and we’ll even see Gigantamax forms of Gen 1’s Venusaur and Blastoise.

The Crown Tundra will arrive in the fall of 2020. This one packs a new legendary Pokémon named Calyrex, and it even includes a cooperative mode. That should be fun for fans who’re looking to jam out in Galar with a buddy or random.

Some extra interesting news came along with this expansion pass announcement. Pokémon Sword and Shield will not see an extra version, a la RedBlue and Yellow.

We’ll have more on Pokémon Sword and Shield as it comes.
