by Sean P. Aune | January 10, 2020January 10, 2020 8:28 am EST

The Multiverse is in need of a new director as Scott Derrickson has departed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

News came out late on Thursday evening that Derrickson and Marvel Studios had parted ways on the Doctor Strange sequel. The studio said in a statement, “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences.” It went on to add, “We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

Derrickson posted to his Twitter account, “Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as [Executive Producer].

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is slated to hit theaters on May 7, 2021, but that may now be in question. Everything will depend on how quickly Marvel Studios can find another director to step in and take over the production. We would not be surprised if we see the film get pushed back at least a little bit.

For now, everything remains on schedule.
