Walt Disney Studios sets massive box office record

It was obvious to even casual observers that Walt Disney Pictures was having a massive year in 2019. Now the final numbers have arrived, however, and it is just mind-blowing.

Throughout 2019 Disney dominated every metric you could find. The top five films of the year were all Disney productions. This is just unheard of, and it all led to a box office total that won’t be overcome for years.

For 2019, Walt Disney Pictures brought in $11.12B globally. $3.764B of that was from the U.S., so the rest of the world really picked up some huge numbers.

If you add in the recently acquired 20th Century Fox properties, then the global total climbs even higher to $13.15B.

This is not to say that everything Disney touched turned to gold, however. Dumbo crashed fairly hard with a global total of $353.3M. Meanwhile, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil took in $490.4M globally. While those movies would be decent performers for most studios, for the new Disney those are downright slow.

2020 will not be able to hit these numbers again more than likely as there isn’t a film akin to Avengers: Endgame on the horizon, but we’re sure it will still be a good year for the House of Mouse.
