Link’s Awakening releases this fall – with a dungeon maker

While a lot of the focus from the Nintendo Direct at E3 2019 will be on the announcement that a sequel to Breath of the Wild is on the way, my eyes are firmly on The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

Originally released on the Game Boy, Nintendo is remaking Link’s Awakening from the ground up with adorable, toy-like art that all at once feels distinctly Zelda and yet not like anything we’ve seen in the Zelda games before. It doesn’t ape Link to the Past, Wind Waker, or even Breath of the Wild. It’s just doing its own thing.

And now we know when we can play it – September 20, 2019.

When Link’s Awakening releases, it’ll also feature a new game mode; a dungeon maker. It’s not a surprise considering how successful Mario Maker has been. It’s not quite as details as all that, though, as players will be using pre-made sets to create custom dungeon layouts, so the full dream is still a way out – but this ought to be a fun distraction between sessions of the main game.
