Jensen Ackles revealed via Instagram on Monday that he is joining the cast of Amazon’s The Boys. While flipping through a trade paperback the song “Soldier Boy” begins playing and he just gives a little nod of confirmation.
In the original comics there have been two characters to go by that name. One was during World War II and was a parody of Captain America that ends up getting killed by his commander. The second was a wishy-washy member of the group known as Payback in the modern day. Kripke has confirmed Ackles will be playing the original, but the way things are mixed and matched on the series, don’t count anything out quite yet.
Kripke, who created Supernatural and ran it for its first five seasons said, “When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream – to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to The Boys.
Meanwhile, Jared Padalecki is headed to the Walker reboot as soon as filming wraps on the remaining episodes of Supernatural.
The Boys season 2 will be debuting its first three episodes on Amazon on Sept. 4. No word yet on when season 3 will begin production.
