Earlier this year, there was a rumor that claimed Logan’s James Mangold had agreed to write and direct a movie featuring Boba Fett. But following the disappointing performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm was forced to rethink its strategy with Star Wars spinoffs. As a result, it appears that Boba Fett film isn’t going to happen.
According to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, the Boba Fett film is 100-percent dead. Whether something was even in the works to begin with is still unknown. But fans hoping for Mangold to bring his storytelling expertise to the Star Wars universe will be left disappointed by the news.
Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN #StarWars

There is a silver lining, however. Kennedy said that although the Boba Fett movie isn’t happening—at least not right now—Lucasfilm is 100-percent committed to The Mandalorian, the studio’s new TV series coming to Disney’s streaming service.
According to Jon Favreau, who is acting as a writer and producer of The Mandalorian, the show will focus on a “lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
Audiences won’t get a chance to see the character of Boba Fett fleshed out in a movie, but they may get something even better: a high-production TV series created by some of the best writers, actors, and directors in Hollywood. That’s a pretty good consolation prize if you ask me.
