Once in a while, you see a movie title and you just know you have to see it. Pootie Tang. Snakes on a Plane. Cowboy Ninja Viking. That last one, however, we might not actually get to see. Universal has removed the flick from its calendar and delayed production indefinitely.
Cowboy Ninja Viking is far from canned, though. Collider says the film is still in active development, and the major names attached remain so. Chris Pratt will still star, and veteran TV director Michelle MacLaren is still directing.
Cowboy Ninja Viking tells the story of Duncan, who is the result of a “secret government program to create soldiers for the war on terror,” according to the comic book’s official description. “This experimental regimen conscripts people suffering from multiple personality disorder and turns them into “triplets,” highly lethal operatives possessing three distinct personalities drawing from warrior/tough guy archetypes.”
Universal allegedly is looking to turn the property into a franchise, so it seems smart to take time with it. It’s not like Pratt isn’t plenty busy right now, though. He has sequels to both The LEGO Movie and Jurassic World on the way, along with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, assuming that’s still happening, and, of course, Avengers 4 is already in the can for next May. We can probably wait on Cowboy Ninja Viking a while longer.
