Lucy Hale picked to take on lead in Riverdale spinoff

The CW has found its Katy Keene in a familiar face.

The Archieverse is possibly getting another series. The CW has been casting for a Katy Keene pilot, and it was announced on Monday that the titular role would go to Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars).

Katy Keene is set to “follow the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. This musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.” The character of Keene herself is described as, “bold, big hearted and independent,” and “a twenty-something New Yorker who aspires to be a fashion designer. When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city.”

While Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is not technically a spinoff of Riverdale – they just exist in the same universe – Katy Keene actually has direct ties. Ashleigh Murray will appear in the pilot of the series as a slightly aged Josie McCoy. Should the pilot go to series, Murray will leave Riverdale to become a series regular on Katy Keene.

As hard as it may be to believe, we are indeed living in a world now where we refer to a TV ‘Archieverse,’ and it appears that it isn’t done growing.
