With coronavirus cases surging across the U.S., the film industry had an even worse weekend than many projected.

Freaky, the latest Blumhouse horror film, opened this weekend with $3.7M, a number at the lower end of the projections.

Second place went to Let Him Go with $1.8M for a new domestic total of $6.88M.

The War With Grandpa  landed in third place with $1.32M. It now sits at $15.22M domestically and $20.7M globally.

Come Play came in second with $1.1M for a new domestic total of $7.31M.

Rounding out the top five was Honest Thief with $800K. Its new domestic total sits at $12.38M and globally it sits at $20.05M.

The coronavirus is doing nothing but climbing once again, and we don’t expect to see these numbers improve any time soon. And with Free Guy and Death on the Nile now both removed from the schedule, we wouldn’t be too surprised to hear of some theaters shutting back down once again. The only question is why more haven’t done so already.
