Monster Hunter took the top spot at the box office in its opening weekend, even with less than 2,000 screens.

First place went to Monster Hunter $2.2M off of just 1,736 screens. Normally we don’t report on films with less than 2,000 screens, but no film was at that number this week. Globally it sits at $11.01M.
The Croods: A New Age came in second with $2M for a new domestic total of $27.02M and globally it sits at $84.52M.
Third place went to Fatale with $925K.
Elf, yes, the Will Ferrel comedy, took fourth place with $365K.
Fifth place went to Half Brothers with $260K for a new domestic total of $1.79M.
For the first time in a while, more than one film broke $1M for the weekend. We expect Wonder Woman 1984 to do the same next weekend, but its exact total is anyone’s guess still.
