The Roku Channel – the free, ad-supported destination for content on the Roku platform – is getting a new ‘Kids & Family’ section to entertain the little ones. The new content has been chosen and tailored to make it easy for families and children to find the perect content for their veiwing.
In addition, Roku is rolling out Parental Control features for The Roku Channel so that parents can have a hand in what their children may access when on their own.
“We recognize that it can be a challenge to find quality kids and family entertainment across multiple streaming channels, particularly free, ad-supported options,” said Rob Holmes, Vice President of Programming and Engagement, Roku. “Kids & Family not only provides a selection of great free, ad-supported content from partners like pocket.watch with Ryan’s World and Lionsgate’s Leapfrog, but also highlights kids’ entertainment from existing Premium Subscriptions partners. Parents looking to find great programming for their children will enjoy the ease of going to The Roku Channel as their one place for kids and family entertainment.”
The content is being chosen by an in-house editorial team at Roku, so nothing is automated that may let something unseemly through. At launch there will be more than 7,000 free, ad-supported movies and TV episodes for kids and families to choose from. There will even be original content as well as there will five, 22-minute episodes of Ryan’s World for kids to enjoy.
The Roku Channel has quickly become a must-have on Roku devices for the growing legions of cord cutters out there. The more free content, the better, and this is definitely a demographic that needs more options.
