By the Power of Grayskull! He-Man and the Masters of the Universe are returning to our TVs courtesy of Netflix and Kevin Smith.

Appearing on stage at Power-Con, an annual He-Man convention, this weekend in Anaheim, California, Kevin Smith revealed the big news that he is working on Masters Of The Universe: Revelation.

In a statement released after the event, Smith said, “I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe.” He went on to add, “In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

In an official synopsis revealed that following a climactic battle with Skeletor, it’s all down to Teela to start putting Eternia back together.

A radical return to Eternia, Revelation is a direct sequel series to the classic era of Masters of the Universe. Featuring fan favorites He-Man, Orko, Cringer, and Man-At-Arms, the story pits our heroic warriors and guardians of Castle Grayskull against Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man and the vile legions of Snake Mountain!

But after a ferocious final battle forever fractures Eternia, it’s up to Teela to solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to prevent the end of the Universe! Her journey will uncover the secrets of Grayskull at last. This is the epic He-Man and the Master of the Universe saga fans have waited 35 years to see!

If there is one thing we never knew, it was who built Castle Grayskull, and who forged the Sword of Power that gave Prince Adam his powers.

The other big question will be if there is any chance of a crossover with She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The series currently airs on Netflix, and while she does still invoke the Grayskull name to transform, there has been no indication she is Prince Adam’s sister as she was in the classic series. It also sounds as though the two series will have radically different animations styles. We wouldn’t hold our breath on this one happening.

It sounds as though Smith is assembling a crack team to work on the series including Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering) and Marc Bernardin (Alphas). The animation for the series is being handled by Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania).

Masters Of The Universe: Revelation is being billed as a limited series, but no word as of yet as to how long it will be, or when it will launch.
