As Supernatural comes to a close with its fifteenth season, it appears that may truly be the end of the franchise.
While The CW has enjoyed a run of doing spinoffs of various series, it has just never seemed to work with Supernatural. In 2013 that were an attempt at a series called Supernatural: Bloodlines that would have seen Hunters and monsters clashing in Chicago. Then in 2017 there was a pilot shot for Wayward Sisters that would have seen Kim Rhodes as Sheriff Jody Mills heading up a group of female Hunters. Neither project was taken to series.
Speaking at the TCA presentation over the weekend, CW President Mark Pedowitz made it clear that he is cold to any more attempts at spinning off the successful show. “I’ve been involved in two spinoffs that did not connect. We’ve had no further discussions whatsoever in terms of a Supernatural spinoff. I tend to believe that, at this point, the show’s essence is Jared (Padalecki) and Jensen (Ackles).”
Sometimes there are series that just can’t be separated from their stars, and this seems to be one of those times. Seeing as the original plan for this series only called for five seasons, getting 10 extra seasons seems like plenty to us.
