When the first trailer for Spider-Man 3 dropped in 2007 showing off the first big-screen iteration of Venom, I could not be more hyped. He was one of my favorite Spider-Man characters and finally seeing him grace the big screen was a dream come true. Plus, the main crew from the first two outstanding Spider-Man movies returned, so it was all set up to conclude one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time.
My expectations were missed in epic fashion.
Spider-Man 3 turned out to be a bloated, convoluted mess that squandered all the good will the first two movies earned. Topher Grace was a super whimpy Eddie Brock (thanks to an awful script) in an epic miscast that ruined the iconic character. It was so bad, in the wake of nonstop onslaught of superhero blockbusters, Venom was bypassed in new Spider-Man adaptations for villains like Electro, Rhino an Vulture, even though none are nearly as cool.
It’s safe to say the new Venom movie has little to live up to and judging from the new trailer, it didn’t try to.
Venom
The second trailer for Venom gives us our best look yet at the titular character and it isn’t exactly what fans expected. What we get is some very questionable dialogue and a polarizing Venom design.
Iron Fist
Danny Rand has a very dark past and it is going to be explored in the second season of Iron Fist. The second trailer sees Danny have some disturbing flashback while giving us a possible first look at him wearing the iconic yellow Iron Fist mask from the comics.
Maniac
Not much can be ascertained from the first trailer for the upcoming Netflix comedy series Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. All we get is a very colorful background and the two actors staring at each other in what looks like asylum jumpsuits. But if they can recreate the magic they had in 2007’s Superbad, I’m in.
Smallfoot
Smallfoot is an upcoming animated movie that aims to reimagine everything we’ve thought about Bigfoot. Turning the tables around, instead of humans hunting the mythical “Bigfoot,” a yeti (voiced by Channing Tatum) goes on a mission to capture the mythical “Smallfoot,” or better known as humans
If Beale Street Could Talk
If Beale Street Could Talk is Barry Jenkins’ first film since Moonlight, which was crowned Best Picture at last year’s Academy Awards. The first trailer gives us a look at how trying love can be, especially when your family is opposed to it and life takes unfortunate turns. It is based on the novel of the same name by James Baldwin.
Lizzie
In 1892, Lizzie Borden’s father and stepmother were brutally murdered in their home and she became the prime suspect. Lizzie examines her life and what happened that night of the murders, which may have included a forbidden relationship with the maid and pigeons getting their heads chopped off.
