Tom Cruise’s most constant collaborator has joined him on his latest movie, Top Gun: Maverick.
Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie began their fruitful working relationship in the 2008 historical drama, Valkyrie, in which Cruise starred and McQuarrie served writer and producer. Since then, McQuarrie has joined Cruise on multiple projects, including the last two Mission: Impossible movies.
The two are teaming up once again for Top Gun: Maverick. It seems any time Cruise needs help on a movie, he enlists McQuarrie to help him out with either directing, writing or producing. Most of the time it works out (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Edge of Tomorrow), but it hasn’t always (The Mummy, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back).
McQuarrie is not going to start the script from scratch. Instead, he’s going to rework the script previously worked on by five writers.
Top Gun: Maverick is being directed by Joseph Kosinski, who’s previously worked with Cruise on the 2013 sci-fi thriller Oblivion, and features a loaded cast that includes Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer, who is returning to reprise his role as Tom “Ice Man” Kazansky.
Top: Gun Maverick won’t fly into theaters until June 26, 2020.
