I thought for sure my most-anticipated game coming this fall would be Red Dead Redemption II, a game I’ve been waiting for since 2010. But Insomniac’s Spider-Man has me so hyped that I’m starting to feel torn. This newest story trailer, unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, isn’t making things any easier.
The trailer shows off a few characters in close-up detail that we haven’t been able to get a good look at so far. Anti-hero Silver Sable shows up sans the silver latex I remember from the comics way back, and we get some quality time with Mary Jane Watson and Miles Morales, who seems to be a fairly significant character in the game. Insomniac has already said that we’ll spend at least a few minutes playing as Mary Jane, but could that means we’ll also get to swing around as Miles Morales?
We also get to hear the voice of Norman Osborn for the first time. In this version of the Spider-Verse, Osborn is the mayor of New York City as well as having is own company, Oscorp. Osborn is sporing some bright green colors and a particularly vivid hatred of Spidey in the trailer. Spider-Man Director Bryan Intihar told us at E3 that Green Goblin doesn’t exist in this world, but Osborn wants Spider-Man hunted down. The next step would be to hop into the fray himself, and we’re betting that’s going to be a big part of the game. It’s sounds like it’s more that Green Goblin doesn’t exist yet rather than at all. Even if Osborn doesn’t become the Goblin in this game, it seems like he’s going to be a huge thorn in Spidey’s side throughout the game.
Spider-Man hits PlayStation 4 exclusively on September 7. If you pre-order, you get access to a set of three skins, though these skins will also be available to earn in-game, too.
