When I first saw The Conjuring, I thought it was going to be a run-of-the-mill horror movie high on jump scares and low on actual horror elements. I couldn’t have been more wrong about James Wan’s movie and have been a fan of the franchise ever since.
It’s four movies deep now (two Conjuring movies and two Annabelle movies), with a terrific short film to boot. The fifth movie in the series arrives next month and The Nun looks to be the scariest Conjuring movie yet. It revolves around the character introduced in The Conjuring 2 and looks to take the suspenseful horror elements to the next level.
In fact, marketing for the movie is so good, people freaked out about the short jump scare commercial playing before regular videos on YouTube, causing the video service to pull the ad.
The Nun headlines the new trailers of the week.
The Nun
The Nun looks like it’ll be the scariest movie of the year thanks to the diabolical-looking demon nun running around scaring the crap out of a lowly sister. The newest 30-second teaser is a quick look at a scene in which a man gets trapped in a coffin while getting tortured by the nun.
The Happytime Murders (Red Band)
I’ve seen my share of movies in my lifetime, but few come close to how outlandish The Happytime Murders looks. Who knew you could turn Muppets-style puppets into some of the most crass characters to grace the big screen?
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2
In the third trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, Ralph does just that, breaks the internet. But now he has to find a way to fix it, and along the way he will run into all things internet and a few Disney princesses.
Arizona
Sometimes life can take some twisted turns, and in Arizona, Danny McBride is a jilted homeowner out for revenge when the house market crashes and he blames the real estate agent who sold him the house for lying to him. So he kidnaps her, setting them on a weird path in this dark comedy.
Iron Fist
Danny Rand is back in the second season of Iron Fist and this time around, more trouble is brewing. Annoying nightmares aside, his ex-best friend is back with the Iron Fist power of his own, though this time it’s red.
