Maleficent flies to the top of the box office

Disney scores another win at the box office, but with numbers that will disappoint.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil took the top spot at the box office with $36M. The first film took in $69.43M in its opening weekend in 2014. Considering the comparable budgets – $180M vs $185M – this is not good news.

Second place this week went to Joker with $29.2M. Domestically it now sits at $247.22M. Foreign totals sit at $490.3M for a new global total of $5737.52M off of a $55M budget.

Zombieland: Double Tap landed in third place with an opening of $26.72M off of a $42M budget.

Fourth place went to The Addams Family with $16.05M for a new domestic total of $56.81M.

Gemini Man landed in fifth place with $8.5M, bringing its domestic total to $36.51M. Globally it sits at $118.72M off of a $138M

This week’s wide releases will be Black and Blue, Countdown, and The Current War.
