Clueless to be rebooted as a drama by CBS TV Studios

It seems that an all-new hourlong Clueless television series is on the way. The most surprising part, however, is you shouldn’t expect too many laughs from it.

According to a report from Deadline, CBS TV Studios is working on the reboot of the 1995 film that will focus on the character of Dionne. Stacey Dash played her both in the original film and the 1996 TV series follow-up. Reportedly multiple streamers, as well as The CW, have already expressed interest in the project.

The series is being written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey (Will & Grace) who describe it as Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video. The story will revolve around Cher disappearing, and Dionne stepping up as the number one girl in school. She will have to find a way to balance her new position while also solving the mystery of Cher’s disappearance.

Corinne Brinkerhoff will serve as an executive producer alongside Tiffany Grant and Robert Lawrence who was a producer on the original movie.

CBS TV Studio has deals currently with nearly all of the streaming platforms and networks, so finding a home for this series shouldn’t be difficult. With the premise that has been laid out, it seems like a good fit for the CW, especially in light of the recently launched Nancy Drew.

Do we need to dive back into this world? I guess we’re about to find out.
