Travis Knight looks set to step down as Uncharted director

It seems that Uncharted has lost yet another director. Travis Knight is reportedly stepping away from the project as Sony Pictures tries to juggle all of its projects with Tom Holland.

Knight joined the Uncharted film this past Sept. as the sixth director to try to take on the film. The first turbulence hit in 2011 when the film was set with David O. Russell to direct and Mark Whalberg to star. Russell dropped out and was replaced by Neil Burger who dropped out in 2012. Seth Gordon was brought on in 2014, but he walked away in 2015. Shawn Levy then stepped in as of 2016, and that was when Tom Holland was finally announced. Levy stepped away in 2018 just to be replaced by Dan Trachtenberg, who left in Aug. of this year.

As it stands right now, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg are still attached to the project as the leads, but the timing has just been thrown off. With Holland now back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man – at least for one more film – that project got moved up. Shooting on the untitled third film will now be taking place in Summer 2020 leaving him no time to work on Uncharted for now.

While it’s unfortunate to lose Knight, Sony has a lot riding on this project and needs to make sure everything goes to plan. The Uncharted movie will be the first film from the newly founded PlayStation Productions which will hopefully go on to make a lot more films based on the company’s games.

What the production schedule looks like for Uncharted now is unknown, and no word as of yet on possible replacements for Knight.
