RoboCop Returns has landed a new director in the form of Abe Forsythe. Frech off the Lupita Nyong’o zombie comedy Little Monsters, he’s off to Detroit.
The latest RoboCop movie has had a bit of a rough ride to production. Neill Blomkamp exited as director this past summer. Previous to that the script went through a version by the original writers – Ed Neumier and Michael Miner – but then got a rewrite by Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate). Now, Forsythe will make a pass on the script as well.
The film is set to be a direct sequel to the 1987 original film and will ignore all the other sequels and the film reboot. This seems to be a hot new trend in Hollywood with the Halloween franchise successfully having done the same recently.
Neumier and Miner are both set to serve as producers on the film. No timeline for production has been announced as of yet.
