When Star Wars Episode IX rolls out in theaters come December 2019, it will feature a Time Lord in its cast. The next Star Wars movie has added former Doctor Who star Matt Smith to its cast list.
First reported by Variety, Matt Smith has signed on to play an unspecified role in the upcoming Star Wars movie. All that we know is that Smith will portray a “key role” in the movie, but that can mean just about anything.
Matt Smith is best known for his role as the eleventh Time Lord in Doctor Who and Prince Philip in the Netflix prestige drama The Crown. He also had minor roles in Terminator: Genisys and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Smith’s casting follows the news that Lord of the Rings alum Dominic Monaghan was joining the cast as well. The two actors will join a cast that already includes Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.
Star Wars Episode IX has a release date of December 20, 2019.
