The Suicide Squad cast has been announced and it’s huge

After months of rumors, the official cast for The Suicide Squad has been announced. James Gunn has announced the actors, but not roles they are playing as of yet.

First up, we’ll take care of the actors returning from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Joel Kinnaman (Flag) are all finally confirmed to be returning.

And despite the fact that there are returning actors and characters, this is still not officially being called a “sequel” for some reason. Producer Perter Safran has been saying “it’s a reboot,” While Gunn said in an interview, “You know, these terms are all so narrow. There are so many terms. It is what it is. You’ll see in two years when it comes out.”

We’re just as confused as you are.

The new cast members are numerous, and what roles they are playing are a mystery still. Now confirmed David Dastmalchian (self-confirmed as Polka-Dot Man), John Cena (believed to be Peacekeeper), Joaquin Cosio, Nathan Fillion, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg (rumored to be a love interest for someone), Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alica Braga, Steve Agee (rumored to voice King Shark), Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior (rumored to be Rat Catcher), Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Michael Rooker, and, yes, Idris Elba.

The use of the 1980s font certainly seems to confirm the rumors that Gunn is using the Ostander run as his basis.

Gunn said in his tweet, “Don’t get too attached,” so we’re assuming some of these characters won’t be making it out of this movie alive. We’ll just have to see who will go.

Now we wait for an official list of who is playing who.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
