Mark your calendars, we’re heading back to Hawkins, Indiana for Stranger Things 4 in two parts this year.

Netflix announced on Thursday that Stranger Things 4 will debut the first half of the season on May 27, and the second half will appear on July 1. While there are nine episodes in this season compared to the eight in Stranger Things 3, the split of the season was explained in a statement that the total running time of the episodes was twice as long as the last season.

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer also said in a statement that Stranger Things 5 will conclude the series. “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the storv would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but as you’ll soon see for vourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”

It does not sound, however, that this will be the last we see of the Upside Down. The brothers went on to say, “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.”

It stands to reason with everything that has happened in Hawkins that more people would have noticed all of the oddities. And it also stands to reason the Upside Down has broken through the barriers between worlds in other places as well.

As to the more immediate future, Netflix shared a brief description of the new episodes:

It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.

Stranger Things 4 will debut on Netflix on May 27.
