This is part of our “Most Anticipated Movies of 2019” series where we take a look at some of the movies we’re most excited to watch in the new year.
We’ve been waiting for a proper Joker movie since Heath Ledger’s iconic performance in The Dark Knight and we’re finally getting one in 2019. Joaquin Phoenix is putting on the clown makeup and terrorizing Gotham City as the failed stand up comedian, Arthur Fleck, who turns to a life of crime.
The project is directed by The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips and will be the first R-rated live-action DC movie ever made. That bodes well for the true exploration of the Joker’s murderous and cynical character on his way to becoming Batman’s greatest antagonist.
