The Minecraft movie finally received a release date on Tuesday. Mark your calendars for March 4, 2022.

No, you didn’t read that wrong, 2022.

Peter Sollett (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) is directing the film.

We also finally have a bit of an idea as to the plot of the movie. Considering most people play the game simply to build things, it wasn’t clear how you could build a story around it, but it is staying true to the game.

After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.

The idea of seeing Endermen on screen is actually somewhat frightening. That teleporting sound is one you never enjoy hearing.

It feels as though Minecraft popularity isn’t going away any time soon, but nearly three more years for a movie does seem a bit excessive at this point. Hopefully, it will prove to be worth the wait.
