HBO is moving full steam ahead with its plans for a Game of Thrones prequel, and it has gone with a big name for its lead character. Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts is said to be cast as one of the leads of the series according to The Hollywood Reporter.
With Game of Thrones wrapping up its final season, HBO is anxious to keep the successful franchise rolling. The only synopsis released so far is fairly brief.
Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.
Watts is said to be playing an unknown socialite in the series, and her name is not being revealed. Sounds like a perfect setup for a Stark to us.
The final season of Game of Thrones is slated to air in 2019. The prequel series is still in early development and no firm dates have been announced as of yet as to when it may air.
