Crazy Rich Asians Scores a Win at the Box Office

As the summer comes to a close, the top of the box office is seeing some definite changes.

Crazy Rich Asians took the top spot at the box office. It took in $25.23M over the weekend, but due to its early opening during the week it now sits at $34M domestically off of a $30M budget.

Second place went to The Meg with $21.15M. It now sits at $83.75M domestically and $314.15M globally off of a $130M budget. Considering the high budget it seemed questionable if it would reach profitability, but it has now crossed the usual threshold of “budget x 2.”

Mile 22 opened in third place with $13.62M.

Fourth place went to Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Domestically it now sits at $180.73M and globally it has hit $501.43M off of a $178M budget.

Alpha rounded out the top five with $10.5M off of a $51M budget.

This week’s lone major release is Happytime Murders.
