Brightburn final trailer shows we have no hope

The final Brightburn trailer has arrived before the film hits theaters this weekend. The more we see of this, we have to say we’re rooting for the kid.

Produced by James Gunn, Brightburn tells us what is essentially the origin story of Superman. However, instead of growing up to be a shining beacon of hope and justice, he is turning out just a bit on the evil side.

There have been numerous stories over the years about what would happen in a world where Superman went evil for one reason or another, but not quite from this angle. It is also highly doubtful anyone would make a Superman movie that showed this (Superman III doesn’t count). Taking it from childhood and showing him just being incredibly violent is new for films.

Gunn is currently busy prepping for The Suicide Squad, and then he will be off to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With that busy of a schedule it is doubtful we’ll see him involved in too many smaller-scale films like this one for some time to come.

Brightburn hits theaters on May 24.
