It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood… to tear up to a trailer.
Growing up in the United States, more than likely you have been exposed to Mr. Rogers Neiborhood. The beloved children’s series is part educational series and part therapy it seems like. And after the highly successful documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, we’re not getting a biographical movie.
We’re not sure Tom Hanks would have been our first choice to play Fred Rogers, but it works. And there may have been some tearing up in the Nerdy offices when we watched this. We admit it.
Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood hits theaters on Nov. 22.
