In case you thought the Star Trek film series was dead, it seems it is very much alive and is about to receive a fourth film.
According to Deadline, Noah Hawley is in final talks to write and produce a fourth Star Trek film. This would be the current series of films starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, and Karl Urban.
This series seemed to be dead earlier this year when Pine and Chris Hemsworth couldn’t reach financial deals for the film. At that time, the plot was to involve time travel and see Hemsworth return as Kirk’s father from the first film. But when the talks fell apart it sounded as though the film series, in general, was dead and the focus was going to turn to the multiple new television series.
That plot is indeed dead now it seems, but the series will move on in another direction.
Hawley is best known for working on both Legion and Fargo on FX. He will produce the film through his 26 Keys production company in partnership with JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot.
No word as of yet as to a production schedule for the film should it move forward.
