Tom Holland had a pretty good week. First, Spider-Man is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (at least for a bit), and then, Uncharted picked up another director.
The Uncharted movie has had a heck of a time with its directors. To date, the movie has gone through five directors. The first turbulence hit in 2011 when the film was set with David O. Russell to direct and Mark Whalberg to star. Russell dropped out and was replaced by Neil Burger who dropped out in 2012. Seth Gordon was brought on in 2014, but he walked away in 2015. Shawn Levy then stepped in as of 2016, and that was when Tom Holland was finally announced. Levy stepped away in 2018 just to be replaced by Dan Trachtenberg, who left in Aug. of this year.
Sony is now in negotiations with Travis Knight who directed the excellent Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings. According to Deadline, Holland has been involved in the hunt for a new director, and everyone is quite keen on Knight signing onboard.
The film is still working from a script by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins and will deal with Nathan Drake as a younger man than seen in the games.
Production is still reportedly on target for early next year, but we’ll have to see if they stick to that with a director coming on now.
