A remake of 1974’s horror classic Black Christmas is on the way. Just how quickly? You’ll be watching it in six months.
Blumhouse announced on Thursday that all systems are go for a remake of Black Christmas and that it will begin shooting almost immediately and will be in theaters on Dec. 13. Sophia Takal (Blumhouse TV’s Into the Dark) will be directing and co-wrote the script with April Wolfe (Widower). Jason Blum (Halloween) will produce along with Ben Cosgrove and Adam Hendricks (Cam).
The cast will include Imogen Poots (Green Room), Aleyse Shannon (Charmed), Brittany O’Grady (Star), Lily Donoghue (The Goldbergs), and Caleb Eberhardt (Broadway’s Choir Boy).
The film is set to kick off production in New Zealand and Universal Pictures will handle distribution.
The original Black Christmas is considered one of the first films in the slasher genre and gave the world the infamous line about “The calls are coming from inside the house!” It’s also interesting to note that it was directed by Bob Clark who would go on to direct the classic holiday film, A Christmas Story.
The story follows a sorority receiving a series of disturbing phone calls before the perpetrator takes it up another step and begins killing the women.
One remake was already released in 2006 to scathing results, but Blumhouse has proven it knows how to handle this type of property.
Black Christmas will be in theaters on Dec. 13, 2019.
