Filming has begun on Star Wars Episode IX, and JJ Abrams had some thoughts he wanted to share with everyone to mark the occasion.
Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go. Grateful for @rianjohnson and special thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part. #IX pic.twitter.com/FOfnGwVut5

We can’t make out much from the image, but that is to be expected and was clearly the intent. A few things we can tell.
- The VII and IX on the camera either signify the same team working on both or the same camera was used for both productions.
- That appears to be John Boyega in the shot as Finn. Note he appears to be wearing a vest this time around.
- Can’t make out who is in the seat.
- From the angled portion in the front, placement of lights, this appears to be the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.
And, of course, we should acknowledge that the tweet and the image is all about acknowledging the passing of Carrie Fisher while also thanking George Lucas & Rian Johnson.
This is only day one, folks. Expect lots of slow leaks and teases in the coming months.
