The Watchmen HBO series appears to have reached its end after just one season. The popular series by creator Damon Lindelof premiered on HBO last year reaching success with audiences and critics. Yet still, a second season for the series seems like it will never happen.
HBO programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed the unfortunate news to USA Today. In the interview, Bloys praised the series crediting Lindelof for his vision and the manner he adapted the material.
“[Lindelof] brilliantly took this graphic novel and just kind of broke it open and created a whole new world,” said Bloys. He concluded by saying that a second season is very possible, but it is all up to Lindelof. That’s the part where fans will be disappointed.
Lindelof confirmed to USA Today that he told the story he wanted to tell with the first season and has no interest in returning for a second season. He did reveal that he has given HBO his blessing should it decide to tread forward with a second season with a new showrunner.
Judging from Bloys comments, it seems clear HBO is not interested in pursuing a second season of Watchmen without Lindelof. That means we’ve probably seen the last of Watchmen.
