Netflix series don’t hold to any set amount of episodes for its series. And when its a hit series like Stranger Things, it truly lets them do whatever they want.
While seasons 1 and 3 of Stranger Things had eight episodes each, season 2 had nine. This leaves some questions of how many Stranger Things 4 will have, but now we know. According to a report from TV Line, series creators the Duffer Brothers will be going with eight episodes once again.
It’s nice to know how many episodes to expect, but then comes the question of when we’ll see them. As it stands, it appears the series will begin filming in January 2020 and is expected to shoot until August of that year. This leaves little doubt that we will not be seeing the fourth season in 2020, but some time in 2021 instead.
Very little is known about the plans for the new season other than the Duffers have confirmed that there will be action outside of Hawkins, Indiana. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, Matt Duffer said, “I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins.”
Considering where Stranger Things 3 left us with Hopper apparently dead, but heavy evidence he may be alive in Russia, there was little doubt the show would have to move on. Hawkins has been a sanctuary of the kids for three seasons now, but as they grow older, their world should grow with them.
We’re anxious for Stranger Things 4, but clearly, we’re going to need to wait a bit for those next eight installments.
