The Academy Awards took place on Sunday, April 25, and while no comic book or sci-fi-related films were up for big awards, it contained some future interest for fans. Emerald Fennell was considered a favorite to win for Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman, and the odds held for the actress/director/screenwriter.

Fennell was announced in early April to be tackling the script for Warner Bros. upcoming Zatanna film. There’s no word as of yet as to the production schedule or release date for the film.

Other notable wins for fans of comic book movies include Chloe Zhao’s win for Nomadland as she recently finished directing The Eternals for Marvel. Christopher Nolan – famed for his Dark Knight trilogy – saw his latest film, Tenet, pick up an award for visual effects.
