Chucky is back, but in an all-new form.
Welcome to the super confusing world of the rights to the Child’s Play franchise. On one hand, we have a reboot film happening. While on the other hand, we have a TV series in development that follows the original series.
Focusing here on the film, the new version of Child’s Play doesn’t have a serial killer putting his soul into the doll. Instead, we’re going to be treated to a story about the dangers of technology it seems. While the doll retains the Chucky name, the toy line is now called “Buddi” as opposed to “My Buddy.” He’s also going to have a new voice, but that’s being kept out of the marketing materials for now.
We’re still not sure how these competing franchises will work, but if you want Chucky in your life, there’s a lot on the way.
Child’s Play hits theaters on June 21.
