Movies had returned to a fairly regular release schedule over the summer, but it seems as we enter the fall that the studios are returning to being skittish. As the Delta variant continues to interfere with recovery in the U.S., Paramount Pictures made some changes to its upcoming release schedule on Wednesday.
Top Gun: Maverick is moving from Nov. 19, 2021 to May 27, 2022. This is causing Mission: Impossible 7 to vacate that date and move to Sept. 30, 2022. Jackass Forever will also be moving from Oct. 22, 2021 to Feb. 4, 2022.
Just minutes after the announcement that Top Gun: Maverick was vacating Nov. 19, Sony Pictures moved Ghostbusters: Afterlife from Nov. 11 to Nov. 18.
The fall still has a significant number of releases left with some that are almost assured not to move. No Time to Die is set for Oct. 9, Venom: Let There Be Carnage on Oct. 15, Matrix: Resurrections on Dec. 17, and more.
There is still a chance we will see more release date changes in the coming weeks, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
