Carlton Cuse (Lost, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Locke & Key) and feature writer Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman, Ice Age: Continental Drift) are reportedly working on a TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for Hulu.

According to a report from Deadline, the project is in development under Cuse’s Genre Arts production banner at ABC Signature. Both Cuse and Fuchs are set to write, executive produce, and showrun the series that would see a bit of a modern updating.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy began life as a radio play, then moved to books, and then on to a British TV adaptation, and then a feature film version. The books ahve been translated into over 30 languages and continue to be huge sellers every year.

The story follows Arthur Dent who awakens one day to discover the Earth is marked for demolotion by the Vogons to make way for an interstellar highway… the plans have been on file for anyone to look at for ages, just on another planet. He is rescue at the last minute by his friend Ford Prefect, who it turns out is an alien, and then they set off adventures across the universe.

It’s a comedy that takes jabs at just about every topic there is, and we can’t wait to see what they do with this version.

No word yet on a production timeline.
