Earlier this week, Marvel finally unveiled official photos from the Captain Marvel movie. The studio also shared some information about the title character, as well as her mentor, who is being played by Jude Law. So, just who is this “devout warrior?”
Law’s character, whose name is still being kept under wraps (although some speculate he’s playing Mar-vell), is a “key piece” of the Captain Marvel movie, acting as the leader of a Kree military team known as Starforce.
“He is driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people,” Law explained to Entertainment Weekly. “So he’s almost a devout warrior—unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational.”
In addition to leading Starforce, Law’s character will serve as a mentor to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, helping her harness her powers. He’ll also help her acclimate to Kree society. Remember, she is part human, having previously been a pilot with the Air Force on Earth.
With that mentorship, the two characters form a special bond, which apparently creates tension with the rest of Starforce. How that tension will ultimately unfold remains to be seen, but it will certainly play an important part in the narrative.
We still have yet to see Captain Marvel in motion, but we at least have a series of official images to study. The film is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
