Eiichiro Oda’s manga series was successfully adapted into an ongoing anime in 1999. To date, there have been 1,088 episodes and counting, making it a fairly large task for new viewers to break into it. Netflix has come up with a plan on how to tackle this.

After the launch of its live-action One Piece series, the company has announced it’s embarking on a new anime adaptation, which will be entitled The One Piece.

Netflix is promising that the new version will be “distinct” from the current series, and it aims “to provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.”

In addition to a new take on the famous series, Netflix has also announced that it will adapt Oda’s Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation as a new anime series as well.

No word as of yet as to when either series will be premiering. With Netflix renewing the live-action series for season 2, it appears the company plans on being business with Oda for some time to come.
